Been a rough day. As a pharmacist, we need to go beyond just clinical practice, dispensing, MURs and travel clinics. Today, I have been called on to run an emergency pharmacy.
The deal was simple. The pharmacy has had a gas leak ... well, not just the pharmacy but the entire parade of shops! Residents have been evacuated and it looks as if this will continue until the end of next week! We are only let in to the pharmacy for no more than 5-10 minutes at a time and only then to supply methadone to our blue script population.
Tempers have been high ... patients on the whole very understanding. Have been using all of my management and experience skills gained over the past 17 years to help ease the situation.
A word of advice for my pre-registration colleagues ... pharmacy is more than clinical practice. I have learnt a lot over the past day or two on evacuation procedures, how to remain outwardly calm in the face of an angry mob and how the gas board almost blew up the pharmacy. And another word of advice; never drill through a gas pipe.

Yeah there is a big difference between what they want you to know in the exam and what you need to be a good pharmacist!
