GPhC Exam Question

Its a Sunday morning and a mother of a 16 year old patient comes into the pharmacy. The 16 year old is a regular patient (has been coming into the pharmacy for over 5 years with her prescription) who is being treated for asthma. He has forgotten his inhaler at home and sent his mother to get one. The mother explains that he is wheezing quite badly and you deem it as an acceptable emergency.

First statementSecond statement
Its is illegal to provide the emergency supply in this case.
Emergency supplies can only be given when the patient is present.

The MEP does not state that the patient needs to be physically present, if you as a pharmacist feel that the medicine is for the right condition and there is an appropriate emergency then the medicine can be given. These points are mostly covered in the above scenario, however, one other factor remains which is not explored here. Can the patient get access to her medicines via "normal routes"?, ie can she ring the doctor and get a prescription? It says it is a Sunday above so probably not. In this respects, the answer would be C.
